The Henderson Writers Group is serious about educating writers. We believe that our youth, specifically students, are the place to start. To further these efforts we have established this writing contest to award scholarships to the best of these budding authors.

Submissions for the 2012 Student Writing Contest will be accepted from September 1, 2011 to November 30, 2011. All middle school, high school and college students residing in the southwest region (Nevada, Arizona, California, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado) are eligible.
What to Submit:
Submit one edited work of fiction or nonfiction (including poetry) of 4,000 words or less.

1st Place Fiction: $300 US Dollars

2nd Place Fiction: $200 US Dollars

High School Student Awards:

Formatting Guidelines
Manuscripts should follow standard submission format:
1 inch margins all around
Double-spaced
Times New Roman or Courier 12 pt font
Cover page with:
Author's Name
Mailing Address
Type of work (fiction or nonfiction)
Title of work
Name of School (or Homeschool District)
Word count (most word processing programs can provide this)
Work should include a Header with ONLY work title and page numbers.
Selection Process
Works will be judged on originality and writing skill. The contest will be blind judged, no members of the HWG will act as judges. Contest winners will be announced in February, 2012, at a date and time to be announced. (Due to early closing of the Clark County Libraries, we must find a new location.) Scholarship awards will be handed out during the banquet for the Las Vegas Writers Conference on Saturday evening, April 21st, 2012.

How to Submit
During the submission period ONLY, email your properly formatted work as a PDF attachment to info@hendersonwritersgroup.com and type "Student Writing Contest" in the subject. Don't forget the cover page and include a legible copy/scan of your student ID (or letter from assigned teacher or district, if homeschooled).
